El Camino: A Culinary Journey Through Spain

The latest installment of Letra House's El Camino dinner series is our most intrepid yet.

Amble down the cobblestones of our subterranean hideaway, and take a culinary journey through Spain. From the pulsating heart of Madrid, to the sunburnt pastures of Extremadura, the salt-kissed coasts of Andalusia, and everywhere in between, the vibrant delights of a bountiful Spanish table will be yours for the tasting as Letra House celebrates Eat Spain Drink Spain.

Love Tilly Group Culinary Director Scott McComas-Williams and Letra House Head Chef Brandon Jones have created a set menu ($95 per person) bursting with the diverse flavours of Spain.

To begin, a classic Catalan pa amb tomàquet I anxoves, or bread with tomato, with Angelachu Cantabrian anchovies will alongside slices of Jamón Ibérico, hailing from Extremadura. Next, polbo á feira, octopus, potato and smoked paprika, typical of Galicia. Next, it's on to Madrid for its famous calamari sandwich, bocadillo de calamares, with guindilla, mayo and not-hot sauce; followed by Castile y Léon’s morcilla con pimientos de padrón, peppers stuffed with house-made blood sausage.

Swing by the Canary Islands for queso fresco con mojo verde, served with coca, a Catalan-style flat bread; and on to Andalusia for gambas al ajillo, garlic prawns sizzled on the plancha. The main course, arroz caldoso de pato y espárragos, will take you to the home of arroz, Valencia, for a dish of brothy Calasparra rice with duck and asparagus.

Your final sweet stop will be Basque Country with a plump, oozy slab of pantxineta, a custard slice with Marcona almonds.

Imbibe from a curated Spanish wine and drinks pairing ($70 per person), including an irresistible two-sip Martini di Menorca, and the saline-acid thrill of Bodega Gorrondona's Txakoli. Or, keep it casual and by the glass with our enticing wine, drinks and vermouth list - it is sangria season, after all.
